Telecommunications Market in Colombia

Colombia telecom services generated income by USD7.992 billion in 2014, according to data revealed by Dataxis in the report “Telecom Series 2015: Colombia.” That figure will increase by 8.1% towards 2018, when it will ascend to USD8.637 billion. The data includes the combined income of the markets of mobile services, fixed telephones and fixed broadband in the country.

At the end of 2014 the mobile market represented 74% of total telecommunications income Colombia, figure that Dataxis estimated that will grow to 78.4%, towards 2018.

Colombia had 51.3 million active SIM cards to Q4 2014. The company estimates that the market will grow to 55.6 million in 2018. By then, the 4G will have 83% of the market.

Furthermore, the fixed broadband sector represented for about 11% of total revenue in 2014; Dataxis estimated that by 2018 that figure will rise to 13.7%. The number of broadband access to Q4 2014 was 4.9 million. By 2018, Dataxis estimates that it will grow 35.5% to 6.6 million accesses.

Colombia recorded a total of 7.1 millions of lines of fixed telephones in Q4 2014. The market suffered a fall of 9.1% since 2007, when it recorded a 7.8 million lines. It is expected that in 2018 falls 10.7% to 6.3 million lines.
