Trailer of the second season of “La Reina del Sur” broke records: more than 8 million visits

More than 8.1 million views on all its digital platforms including Instagram, Facebook, YouTube and Telemundo.com, according to Adobe Analytics and Shareablee. Fans have enjoyed an advance of the expected return with its protagonist, the Mexican Kate del Castillo in her iconic character Teresa Mendoza.

The trailer surpassed the record that the successful series “Sin Senos Si Hay Paraíso” established for Telemundo last year when it recorded 2.7 million views in its first week. Before the release of the online trailer, Kate del Castillo uploaded a video announcing the release date, which will be on April 22 and this generated 1.3 million views, resulting in a total of 9.4 million views for the launch campaign of the long-awaited trailer.

“La Reina del Sur” is the most ambitious production in the history of Telemundo and it was the series that catapulted the network to the first place. It was the first series of its genre on Spanish-language television and this second season filmed in eight countries marks a successful return.

The story begins eight years after the powerful drug trafficker Teresa Mendoza disappears thanks to the Federal Witness Protection Program of the U.S., after defeating Mexican presidential candidate Epifanio Vargas. Now Teresa leads a life in complete anonymity in Italy, as “Maria Dantes”, where she is raising her daughter Sofia in the Tuscan villa Massa Marittima.

Created by Arturo Pérez-Reverte, this second season is written by Roberto Stopello, Juan Marcos Blanco, Miguel Ferrari and José Miguel Núñez.Marcos Santana is the executive producer and showrunner of the series with Martha Godoy, of Telemundo, and Rodrigo Guerrero, of AG Studios, as executive producers.

It is a co-production of Telemundo Global Studios and Netflix. Telemundo has the exclusive rights for U.S. and Puerto Rico, and Netflix has the exclusive rights for the rest of the world for OTT.
